Comics and Graphic Novels

This page will discuss comics and link to relevent sites related to comics and graphic novels:

Comics and Graphic Novels have been knocking around for a long time, dissmissed by some as only for children or "idiots"(this was an actual opinion said to me-the speaker didn't know he was talking to one of those "idiots",  me)
Comics, like novels are a mixtures of serious stories , illustrating, worldwide issues and philophical debates ,
and pure pleasure and entertainment. Like novels they are also of varying degrees of technical competance. However for the most part I still believe, beauty is in the eye of the beholder:

Judges and 2000AD

I have also bit of a closet dabbler in "2000AD" and "Judge Dredd"., though have never seriously read them.Partly with 2000AD  for example seemed very aimed at men with the scantily clad female and sexual visuals. However I do like Judge Anderson and recently caught up with one of her stories,"Satan".I  enjoyed and an now want to read the rest. I am also looking forward to seeing the new Judge Dredd film, with the excellent NZ Actor Karl Urban in the title role. As a fan of the comics himself he seems to have steered the film makers in the right direction, after the debacle of the Stallone version(which I have to admit I kind of liked-don't kill me now)....

Troublemaker-Janet and Alex Evanovich

What can I say? I love Janet Evanovich. When I am not reading Scifi and fantasy I like to delve into a little light crime. Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is constantly funny and silly, and the first book has now been made into a movie! yay

I have also enjoyed her other books, which all have a similar witty vibe, including the Barnaby and Hooker series. So I was kinda excited when I saw that her latest novel in this series came as a graphic novel.

However I am not so convinced of it, now I have read it. The graphics are good, but something just doesn't jibe about it. Perhaps the story is a bit simplistic. One of the things I enjoy about Janet Evanovich's writing is her descriptions of people and the crazy things they get into, and this just didn't come through with the comic. It also didn't help that the book began with a guide to how to read a graphic novel! ergh!

Give it a try, but I for one am looking forward to the lasted book version of Stephanie Plum's adventures.....

and if you also like Janet Evanovich try Sarah Strohmeyer's Bubbles stories, Laren Henderson's Sam Jones stories or Nature Girl and others by Carl Hiaasen.

Anyway Back to Comics.......
